Vehicle History

Overall condition: Very Good
Number of owners: 13
History: Part
MOT: 30th May 2024

First registered on the 18th of February 1986, this XR2 has been enjoyed by 13 former keepers, and now comes offered in fantastic condition, with just 80k on the clock. Over the years it would certainly seem this little Fiesta has received tremendous care, including previous restoration work, and a mechanical overhaul.

The vehicle has been cherished by the current keeper since 2021, benefitting from dry garage storage, regular maintenance, and low miles. Now offered in fantastic overall condition with plenty of original components left to show, this example is a superb choice for collectors, or enthusiasts on the search for a genuine, well-specced Fiesta XR2.

Exterior

  • Restored to a very high standard by a previous keeper
  • Offers a very impressive finish, perfect for collections

As the images reflect, the paintwork of this XR2 is mightily impressive for the vehicle’s age, offering a rather glossy finish, with only a few incredibly minor blemishes to show. The excellent finish can be attributed to dry garage storage, minimal usage, excellent care throughout the current keeper’s ownership and of course, previous restoration work.

Not looking to be outshined by the paintwork, all exterior trim components and details follow suit, yielding equally impressive finishes as far as the eye can see. Plastic trim pieces offer tidy finishes, seemingly free from ageing, and present with their red pinstriping. There’s also plenty of original glass to enjoy, which only adds further to this XR2’s collection appeal.

Keeping true to the signature XR2 styling we all enjoy, this example does of course come equipped with a full set of 13” pepper-pot alloy wheels. Having been professionally refurbished, the wheels offer an excellent finish all around, and come complete with centre caps, and a set of Ovation tyres, with plenty of tread to enjoy.

With only a few very minor blemishes to show across the exterior of the vehicle, this XR2’s finish certainly leaves very little to be further desired, and will no doubt shine as part of any collection.

Mechanics

  • Powered by a 1597cc inline-four, with a manual five-speed gearbox
  • Offers an engaging driving experience, with plenty of fun to be had
  • Boasts excellent mechanical health, with no known faults to note
  • Includes a blank service booklet for the new owner
  • Comes ready to enjoy, with MOT until May 2024

Although the Escort was Ford’s chosen performance machine of the time, the XR2 Fiesta is certainly no slouch, sitting comfortably in the retro hot hatch category. Powered by a 1.6L four-pot and weighing in around the 850kg mark, the MK2 XR2 offers a very characterful driving experience, with plenty of fun to be had on the twisty roads.

Buyers will be pleased to know that this particular example fires up right away, and performs brilliantly throughout the gears, not missing a beat. With a valid MOT until May 2024, and no known mechanical or electrical faults to note, this superb 1986 Fiesta XR2 is more than ready to be enjoyed out on the open road.

Interior

  • Very well preserved interior, with original components to show
  • Presented in fantastic order, with only minuscule blemishes
  • Includes a spare set of seats, and various interior pieces

In keeping with the rest of the vehicle, you’ll find the interior to be a very well cared for, and incredibly tidy space. Both front seats retain their original finishes in spectacular order with only incredibly light signs of use, whilst the rear seats appear to have hardly been used throughout the car’s life. As pictured, the driver’s seat does show a very minor tear to the rear material, but this can soon be rectified thanks to the current keeper’s inclusion of a spare set of seats.

Facing forwards, the dashboard and all accompanying trim components proudly show impressive finishes, with no concerning blemishes to note. All interior controls and electric components are also believed to be in full working order, and control contact points show only incredibly light usage. Having been replaced rather recently, the carpeting throughout the interior also boasts a fantastic finish and comes protected by a tidy set of matching floor mats.

In the boot, you’ll find a clean and tidy parcel shelf, an original cubby panel beneath the flooring, and a matching spare pepper-pot alloy. With the exception of a slight crack to the rare compartment trim and very minor carpet discolouration, the boot has little noticeable wear or markings to show.

Overall, the interior of this XR2 reflects a very high standard, with an incredible amount of original components to show, and only the most minute of blemishes.

Why buy?

The Fiesta XR2 is a favourite amongst retro vehicle enthusiasts and for good reason. You’re treated to signature 80’s hot hatch styling, a thoroughly enjoyable power-to-weight ratio, and a very rewarding ownership experience.

This particular example is a shining star within the market, standing proud with previous restoration work, plenty of original components, and a very impressive overall condition. It is safe to say this would make a superb addition to any collection, and will no doubt fill the lucky new keeper with tremendous pride.
